The Town Council and Holy Trinity (CE) Parish Church are commemorating the 80th Anniversary D-Day landings on 6 June 2024 with a ceremonial beacon lighting service.
To honour the service and sacrifice of those who served, there will be a memorial event to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day operations on Thursday 6 June 2024. From 8.30pm, Holy Trinity (CE) Parish Church (Mill Street, Sutton Coldfield) is hosting a commemoration service.
The service will include a ceremonial lighting of the beacon that serves as a poignant reminder of the courage of the Allied forces and the reading of The International Tribute. This will coincide with beacon lighting ceremonies taking place across the world in celebration of the ‘light of freedom’ that triumphed out of the darkness of war.
Rev’d Canon Becky Stephens will be leading the service and participants will be able to leave their commemorative messages on a prayer tree and light a candle of remembrance inside the church. Refreshments will be provided after the service.
Olive O’Sullivan, CEO of Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council commented, “I would encourage anyone in Sutton Coldfield who would like to remember the bravery and sacrifice of those who served 80 years ago in the D-Day operations to attend the ceremonial beacon lighting service on Thursday 6 June.
This service enables us to honour and recognise those who were involved, those who have previously served and those who are currently serving and it’s an opportunity for the community to come together and remember.”
The event is open to all members of the public. Please note the entrance to church, and car park, will be closed before the start of the event.
