Living in Sutton Coldfield

Location

Situated just over 6 miles to the northeast of Birmingham city centre , Sutton Coldfield shares an administrative border with Lichfield, North Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Walsall.

Transport

Well connected with good access to the motorway network, a frequent rail service on the line between Birmingham city centre and Lichfield (linking to national rail routes) and a comprehensive, regular bus network.

Retail

The town centre has a significant concentration of retail and other businesses, including the Gracechurch Centre and the Red Rose Centre. There is also a range of other bustling local centres within the town boundaries.

Population

The Town has a population of over 95,000 people and a total land area of 5,475 acres making it by far the largest parliamentary constituency in Birmingham by area but not by population, which is the smallest.

Demographics

Characterised by relatively high levels of household income, low levels of unemployment and good levels of educational attainment. Our town is less ethnically diverse with a lower proportion of young people than the rest of Birmingham

Economy

With high economic activity rates there are lower levels of deprivation and poverty than the rest of Birmingham.

A Rich Natural Environment

The Royal Town of Sutton Coldfield is one of the leafiest places in which to live in the UK. Excluding private gardens, more than half of the Town’s total land area is greenspace. Sutton Park, one of the largest urban parks in Europe at almost 10km2, accounts for around 17% of this total but there are many other important green spaces in our Town. Woodland and trees are an important feature of the Town’s landscape and Sutton Coldfield is home to over half a million trees; more than 5 for each person living here!
